Prima Test Vaginal pH Test detects any abnormalities in the levels of vaginal pH acidity, using a special swab. Any alteration of the vaginal pH balance can cause, or could be caused by, a vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis.

WHAT IS VAGINAL PH TEST FOR?

The Vaginal pH Test detects any abnormalities in the levels of vaginal pH acidity, using a special swab. Any alteration of the vaginal pH balance can cause, or could be caused by, a vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis. Immediate and safe results in less than a minute.

WHAT IS VAGINAL PH?

The abbreviation pH indicates, in chemistry, a term to describe the degree of solution acidity, in this case the vaginal environment. Normally, a vaginal pH is between 3.8 and 4.5, essential for the proper functioning of female genitals defence systems from infections of bacterial origin. This system can effectively avoid colonisation by pathogenic germs and the occurrence of vaginal infections.

They are quite common and often a recurring problem among women of all age groups. Normal levels of female reproductive system acidity is different according to the fertile age of a woman: during childhood and old age, when estrogen levels are lower, the vaginal pH is neutral; in adolescence and adulthood, the pH becomes acid in order to protect the apparatus from infections and promote the growth of lactobacilli that defend against vaginal and vulvovaginal affections. The pH tends to neutrality even during the premenstrual and menstrual period, while it’s very acid before ovulation and rises after the release of the egg from the follicle.

There are several pathological conditions that favor the increase of the vaginal pH level, including sexually transmitted diseases, candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis; this is the reason why it’s useful to detect any anomalies in vaginal acidity, because it could be an indicator of any infections in progress to be investigated with the doctor. These can be very dangerous, especially for pregnant women, both for the mother and for the foetus, so the test results should always be discussed with a specialist. Ferritin is a protein that allows the storage of iron inside cells and releases it in case of need, making it quickly usable by the body. This protein is present in all cells, particularly in those of the liver, spleen and bone marrow. Iron is an essential metal for our bodies and is crucial for transporting oxygen in blood. Verifying the levels of ferritin in blood means evaluating the iron stores in the body. In a state of iron deficiency, reserves are reduced before the anaemia manifestly manifests itself: the level of ferritin is therefore useful for determining a depletion of iron stores.

WHO DOES USE THE VAGINAL PH TEST?

The Vaginal pH Test is suitable for both professional and private users to determine the presence of possible vaginal pH abnormalities and undertake any preventive actions. For health professionals it’s useful to detect a variation in the correct systems of protection and regulation of the female reproductive system. It’s also perfect for all women who feel vaginal discomfort.

HOW DOES THE VAGINAL PH TEST WORK?

The Vaginal pH Test is a self-diagnostic device for the semi-quantitative determination of vaginal pH in samples, taken with a specific vaginal swab, using it as an aid in bacterial vaginosis diagnosis, with a pH paper to determine pH levels.

As soon as the swab containing the specimen from vagina comes in contact with the pH paper encased in the Test panel, a colour change occurs. Different pH levels can results can result in different grades and shades of colour with each colour grade/shade specifying a particular pH level on the colour scale.

WHEN SHOULD I DO THE VAGINAL PH TEST?

The Vaginal pH Test is useful for the diagnosis of a possible presence of bacterial vaginosis. It is a precious aid for both professional and private users, it’s also suitable for pregnant women who wish to monitor the presence of possible pathologies affecting the female genital system.
