Sheep Sorrel and Essiac: What You Need to Know.
Rene Caisse stated that the most important herb in the Essiac formula was the sheep sorrel. Furthermore, the sheep sorrel cannot be just the leaves. The sheep sorrel must contain the root, and at the right proportion, that is 20% root of the entire sheep sorrel plant. If the Essiac doesn't contain the sheep sorrel with the root, the tea won't be nearly as effective.
Our Tea is Endorsed by Ty Bollinger
Due to the fact that our formula comes from the correct lineage and its integrity has been maintained, we passed the test of authenticity that allowed our tea to be featured on Ty Bollinger's documentary.
Essiac Now Available as Drops
No more need to spend hours brewing a tea! To make Essiac tea from its raw state takes approximately 13 hours to make a 2 week supply, which for some people it is not practical. In a tincture form, you simply apply a few drops under the tongue or in a drink and you are done....it's that simple
Essiac Tea: Benefits and Nutrition Facts
Recently, there has been a movement of Ayurvedic medicine and natural remedies into the western world and “conventional medicines”. These practices focus on combining exercise, diet, meditation, and natural remedies to balance mind, body, and spirit and restore balance in yourself.
Essiac tea is a remedy that has recently gained popularity among natural health enthusiasts as a powerful antioxidant. The tea was developed in Canada, apparently by an Ojibwa medicine man, and follows Ayurvedic principles as “the holy drink that would purify the body and put you back in balance with great spirit”. Now, thanks to Vita Health, Essiac tea is available in New Zealand and internationally as drops as well as tea!
Essiac Tea in NZ
Essiac tea is made up of a combination of natural ingredients including; burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm, and Indian rhubarb root and had been shown to have a range of health benefits including antioxidant and immune boosting properties.
- Burdock root has been used as a natural remedy for centuries and was traditionally used as a diuretic and digestive aid. Burdock root is now known to contain a range of powerful antioxidants including quercetin, luteolin, and phenolic acids. As well as providing antioxidants, burdock is known to remove toxins from the blood and increase circulation as well as helping to treat skin issues.
- Sheep sorrel has traditionally been used to increase kidney function, as well as treating fever and inflammation. Sheep sorrel is also high in vitamin C and antioxidant flavonoids, leading to it being used to prevent scurvy and improve menstrual problems.
- Slippery elm is a native American tree that has traditionally been used in natural remedies to treat fevers, wounds, and sore throats. When mixed with water, the bark forms a sticky substance that soothe wounds and irritation (inside and outside of the body). This has been used to treat symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease, coughs and sore throats, urinary tract infections (as well as painful bladder syndrome), heartburn, and more.
- Indian rhubarb root (also known as medicinal rhubarb) may be used externally to treat burns, as well as internally to treat digestive issues, haemorrhoids, menstrual complaints, skin issues, circulation issues and more!

As well as the four main ingredients, our Essiac tea also contains blessed thistle, kelp, red clover, and watercress. This formula was developed and tested clinically at the Brusch Medical Research Center in Cambridge, MA to provide the ideal form of orally administered Essiac. Blending ingredients in specific proportions allows each ingredient to have a more powerful effect than it would individually, providing a synergistic effect on health.
Essiac tea is available as raw herbs, capsules, and tinctures from Vita Health NZ. We believe that providing Essiac tea in tincture form allows for faster (and more thorough) absorption of the herbs without requiring digestion. Taking the tincture is quick and easy to fit in around your day to day life: it doesn’t require any brewing, just a few drops in a drink or under your tongue!
