Everyday Health 5-HTP Enhanced with Co-Factors - 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), also known as oxitriptan, is a naturally occurring amino acid and chemical precursor as well as a metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin.
Its naturally derived from the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia plant, a woody 3m high climbing shrub native to Africa that bears greenish flowers followed by black seed pods.
5-HTP is used for insomnia, depression, anxiety, migraine and tension-type headaches, fibromyalgia, obesity, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), seizures, sexual disorders, and Parkinson's disease.
What does 5-HTP Enhanced with Co-Factors contain?
Each vegetarian capsule contains 100mg of pure 5-htp extracted from the Griffonia simplicifolia plant, along side the necessary co-factors niacin (B3), pydoxine(B6), zinc and magnesium, to enhance the body's absorption and metabolization.
Directions
Adults: Take up to 3 capsules daily. Do not exceed this dosage without professional advice.
We recommend starting with a low dosage and gradually increasing it to a level where it is most helpful.
Precautions
- Not suitable for children or during pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Should not be taken with prescription sleep medication, Parkinson's medication or anti-depressants
- Do not use with cardiovascular and kidney conditions, ulcers and cancer
- If symptoms persist, consult your healthcare professional
Side Effects of 5-HTP
In most cases, 5-HTP is well tolerated, although side effects from taking the dietary supplement are possible. Symptoms of side effects include nausea, breathing difficulties and vomiting. Some users, looking for a rapid response by purposely taking more of the supplement than necessary or recommended, may suffer more serious symptoms including excessive heart rate and high blood pressure.
